About

CoinageReport is an independent crypto news and markets desk. We count things and show our working. Where most crypto coverage repeats a claim, we try to measure it, publish the method alongside the number, and tell you what the number does not prove.

What we cover

  • Original measurement of concentration and market structure — who actually holds, mints, mines, custodies and settles
  • Regulatory and policy developments, read from the filings and the bill text rather than the press release
  • DeFi, on-chain data and protocol-level analysis
  • Long-form explainers on the mechanics that keep coming up
  • Field tests, where we run a transaction ourselves and report what happened

Our markets pages carry live pricing and sentiment so you can move from a headline straight into the numbers behind it.

How we work

Our research pieces follow a fixed structure, and the structure is the point. Every one of them carries a method section explaining how the number was produced, a section setting out what the data does not show, and a section describing what evidence would change the conclusion. If a piece cannot carry all three, it does not run as research. It runs as a short, single-number post instead.

Measurements state the date the data was pulled, not just the date the article was published. When we re-run a measurement, we update the original piece, revise the date and add a line to its changelog rather than publishing a near-duplicate at a new address. That keeps the record honest and keeps the reader on the current version.

Where the numbers come from

Findings in our research and analysis are computed from primary and public sources. The ones we lean on most often are DefiLlama and Dune for protocol and on-chain aggregates, L2Beat for Layer 2 activity and value secured, Etherscan for contract and transaction level detail, SEC EDGAR for issuer and custodian filings, Congress.gov for legislative text, and published ETF flow data for fund movements. The price ticker, the sentiment dial and the markets table draw on CoinGecko for price, market capitalization and volume, and on the Alternative.me Fear and Greed index for sentiment, through an endpoint on this site that caches the response for sixty seconds. They are a reference convenience and no reporting on this site rests on them; the measurement work is done from primary sources and cited in the piece that uses it.

If a claim cannot be sourced, it does not run. Where a figure is an estimate, we say so and show the range.

What we do not do

We do not publish price predictions or price targets. We do not tell you what to buy. We are a source of information and analysis, not investment advice — see our Disclaimer. We do not chase breaking-news alerts, because being ninety seconds faster on a story that is already on six other sites is not worth anything to you. We would rather be the site that tells you what the story actually means a day later, with the numbers attached.

We also have nothing to do with coin collecting. The name refers to coinage in the monetary sense.

Corrections

We get things wrong sometimes. When we do, we correct the article itself and note the correction on it rather than quietly editing the text. If you think something we have published is inaccurate, tell us at corrections@coinagereport.com and include the specific figure or claim. Substantive corrections are made within one business day wherever possible.

Who writes this

Most articles are published under “The CoinageReport Desk.” It is an editorial byline, not a pseudonym for a single writer: it means the piece was researched, its figures independently re-checked against source, and reviewed before publication. Bylined pieces carry the name of the person who did the work.

Jason Jones is Editor in Chief. He sets the editorial standard described above, decides what runs, and is accountable for every figure published on this site. Editorial complaints and correction requests reach him directly at corrections@coinagereport.com.

How we are funded

CoinageReport is funded by display advertising, affiliate arrangements and clearly labeled sponsored content. Advertising is sold and served independently of editorial and no advertiser sees a piece before publication. Where an article contains an affiliate link we disclose it on that article, and the presence of a commercial relationship never determines the finding — our field tests report what the transaction actually cost and what actually went wrong, including when the answer is unflattering to a partner. Sponsored content is labeled as such and kept separate from editorial coverage. If you want to advertise, see our Advertise page.
