Editorial standards

This page sets out how CoinageReport is reported, sourced, corrected and funded. It is the standard the desk holds itself to, and it is the standard readers should hold us to.

Sourcing

Every number we publish names the source it came from and the date it was pulled. If a figure cannot be traced to a named provider, an on-chain query or a filing, it does not run. We do not repeat a number because another outlet published it; we go to the source or we leave the number out.

Where a measurement has a known ceiling, floor or blind spot, we say so in the piece rather than in a footnote nobody reads. A range that is honest is worth more than a decimal that is not.

Measurement and the data layer

Our standing measurement series are published at coinagereport.com/data. Each series states what it measures, the method in enough detail that a third party could re-run it, what the measurement does not show, and the date of the next scheduled run.

Each run is a dated artifact. The run page, its CSV and its JSON are permanent and are never overwritten. If a run turns out to be wrong we do not silently amend the file; we publish a new dated run, mark the superseded one, and explain what changed. Data files are released under CC BY 4.0, and the limitations of each measurement travel inside the file itself so the caveat cannot be stripped by reuse.

Corrections

We get things wrong sometimes. When we do, we correct the article itself and note the correction on it rather than quietly editing the text. The note says what was wrong, what it now says, and when it was changed.

Substantive errors โ€” a wrong figure, a misattributed source, a claim that does not hold โ€” are corrected and labelled. Typographical fixes that do not change meaning are made without a note. If a correction changes a headline figure, the headline changes too.

If you think something we have published is inaccurate, write to corrections@coinagereport.com and include the specific figure or claim. Substantive corrections are made within one business day wherever possible.

Funding and commercial relationships

CoinageReport is funded by display advertising, affiliate arrangements and clearly labelled sponsored content. Advertising is sold and served independently of editorial, and no advertiser sees a piece before publication.

Where an article contains an affiliate link we disclose it on that article. A commercial relationship never determines a finding: our field tests report what the transaction actually cost and what actually went wrong, including when the answer is unflattering to a partner. Sponsored content is labelled as such and is not written by the desk. Our advertising terms are set out on the advertise page.

Who is accountable

Most articles are published under “The CoinageReport Desk”. It is an editorial byline rather than a pseudonym for one writer: it means the piece was researched, its figures independently re-checked against source, and reviewed before publication. Bylined pieces carry the name of the person who did the work.

Jason Jones is Editor in Chief. He sets this standard, decides what runs, and is accountable for every figure published on this site. Editorial complaints and correction requests reach him directly at corrections@coinagereport.com. General enquiries go to info@coinagereport.com or through the contact page.
