Apple Axes Crypto Game From App Store

According to a report on Bitcoinist.com, Apple has demanded Coinbase to remove its crypto game War Riders from the Coinbase Wallet app for IOS. The game was deemed to be in violation of Apple’s in-app purchases. The move was justified by Apple as the game did not follow the purchasing structure that Apple demands. The game is still available on Android though.

War Riders is a post-apocalyptic game which allows users to collect vehicles, which are represented as crypto-collectibles (non-fungible tokens) on the blockchain. The vehicles can either be driven around or stored in a garage, where they can be converted to the app’s native token BNZ.

Apple has taken a cautious stance when it comes to cryptocurrencies. It does not allow apps to allow users to buy, sell or trade cryptocurrencies.

This is not the first crypto-related issue Apple has had to tend to. In June,  reported on Apple’s ban on cryptocurrency mining applications

On June 12th,  writer Georgi Georgiev wrote that,

Following an update to its App Store review guidelines, Apple has explicitly halted the design and development of iOS applications which can be used for direct cryptocurrency mining. Still, off-device cloud-based mining is not affected by the changes.

Apple has been slow to adopt cryptocurrency all around, though they have been able to become the first company to obtain a trillion-dollar valuation. Considering cryptocurrency has been seeping into various parts of one’s life, perhaps this will be something they might have to jump into or may have to catch up on as the world advances towards digital currency.
