Crypto Market Update: Bitcoin Holds Firm as Altcoins Signal a New Rotation
Bitcoin held near $59,800 on Tuesday, essentially flat on the day, while a handful of large-cap altcoins outpaced it by three to six percent, reviving talk of an early rotation out of Bitcoin dominance and into select alt sectors.
Bitcoin Holds Its Range
Bitcoin traded between $59,400 and $60,100, holding the same band it has occupied for most of the past week. Long-term holder supply remains near record highs according to Glassnode, and exchange balances have continued drifting lower, a combination analysts say typically reflects accumulation rather than distribution.
Options positioning skewed slightly toward calls heading into the next FOMC meeting, though overall implied volatility stayed well below the levels seen during last quarter’s swings.
Altcoins Hint at Early Rotation
Several large-cap altcoins outperformed Bitcoin on the day: Solana rose roughly 5%, a basket of AI-infrastructure tokens gained an average of 6%, and select real-world-asset (RWA) protocol tokens added 3-4%. Bitcoin dominance slipped slightly from its recent high near 58% of total crypto market capitalization.
It is too early to call a broad “altcoin season” off a single day of relative strength, but the sectors seeing inflows, AI infrastructure, RWA protocols, and Solana-ecosystem tokens, are the same ones that led the last rotation phase in mid-2025.
Macro Still the Bigger Driver
Traders continued to watch central bank commentary and this week’s inflation data more closely than crypto-specific news, since digital assets have traded with a tight correlation to broader risk sentiment for most of the past two months. That correlation has started to loosen slightly in the past few sessions, which some analysts read as an early sign that crypto-native narratives are regaining some independent influence over price.
