Crypto Markets Edge Higher as Investors Position for 2026 Narratives
Bitcoin climbed roughly 1.8% to trade near $60,300 on Wednesday, its highest level in eight sessions, as a modest but broad-based rally lifted most major digital assets.
Bitcoin Consolidates as Supply Tightens
Bitcoin has now traded in a $58,900-$60,600 range for eleven straight sessions, a pattern historically associated with accumulation. Glassnode data show liquid supply, coins held by addresses with a history of moving funds quickly, continuing to decline, while long-term holder addresses control a growing share of circulating supply.
Trading volume was modestly above the 30-day average, with most of the added volume concentrated in spot markets rather than derivatives, a mix analysts generally view as healthier than a leverage-driven move.
Sector Rotation Gains Early Traction
Bitcoin dominance held near 57-58% of total crypto market capitalization, but capital rotation into select altcoin sectors continued for a second day. Tokens tied to artificial intelligence, decentralized infrastructure, and real-world asset tokenization outperformed the broader market by three to five percentage points.
Rather than broad-based speculation across hundreds of tokens, the current altcoin flows are concentrated in a narrower set of sectors, which several trading desks flagged as more consistent with fundamentals-driven allocation than a hype-driven cycle.
Macro Environment Still a Key Variable
Wednesday’s move higher came despite no major scheduled macro data, with traders instead pointing to easing volatility in Treasury yields and a modest pullback in the dollar index as supportive backdrop conditions. Crypto’s correlation with equities remained elevated but has ticked down slightly from December’s highs, according to a rolling 30-day correlation measure cited by several trading desks.
