Entrepreneur and tech billionaire Elon Musk seems to be one of the top personalities of the moment, after managing to send one of his Tesla cars in space. Considering his affinity for new technologies, one can believe that heโ€™s also deep into cryptocurrency. However, the truth is that he invested less than you think.

In a tweet sent on Thursday morning, he revealed that he has just 0.25 BTC, which roughly translates to a bit over $2,500, at the time of the publishing.

It started as a gift, but it did not grow on him

According to CNBC, Elon Musk said that he received that a few years ago from a friend, which could mean that heโ€™s not interested that much into blockchain and cryptocurrency.

However, this wasnโ€™t just an average tweet. The reveal comes as a response to an actual bigger issue. Specifically, a lot of Twitter-based scammers are creating accounts based on famous figures, in order to trick users and steal their crypto coins.

Elon Musk himself alerted Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey about this problem, but the scam accounts kept appearing. A lot of them have been temporarily restricted, but new ones are being created.

โ€œWeโ€™re aware of this form of manipulation and are proactively implementing a number of signals to prevent these types of accounts from engaging with others in a deceptive manner,โ€ a Twitter spokesperson told BuzzFeed News earlier this month.

He is not Satoshi!

Back to the Tesla and SpaceX CEO, back in November he denied all rumors launched by a former SpaceX intern and claiming that the entrepreneur is actually Satoshi Nakamoto, the anonymous creator of Bitcoin.

The claim was definitely unfounded, as Mush doesnโ€™t even know where he keeps his 0.25 BTC. But this doesnโ€™t mean that he doesnโ€™t like to joke around a bit about all the hype created around cryptocurrency over the past months, in which Bitcoin almost reached $20,000 then suddenly crashed.

โ€œBut wait, thereโ€™s more: the flamethrower is sentient, its safe word is โ€œcryptocurrencyโ€ and it comes with a free blockchain,โ€ Elon Musk tweeted, making a reference to the flamethrower he put on sale and sold out immediately.
