Crypto Markets Stabilize as Investors Shift From Speculation to Structure
Bitcoin held near $60,100 on Thursday, consolidating just below the week’s high, as trading volumes across major digital assets settled into a calmer rhythm after three volatile months to close out 2025.
Bitcoin Trades Quietly, But Signals Strength
Bitcoin moved sideways in a $59,700-$60,500 range for a third straight session. Extended consolidation phases like this one have historically preceded larger directional moves when they coincide with limited selling pressure, and on-chain data from Glassnode show realized losses near multi-month lows, suggesting few holders are selling at a loss.
Exchange balances continued their gradual decline, now sitting near the multi-year lows first reached in late 2025, while long-term holder supply held steady week over week.
Derivatives Positioning Cools
Open interest in Bitcoin futures declined roughly 4% over the week even as spot prices held firm, an unwind that typically reflects reduced leverage rather than reduced conviction. Funding rates across major perpetual futures markets normalized to close to neutral after running persistently positive for much of December.
Taken together, cooling leverage alongside stable spot demand is the kind of setup analysts generally describe as healthier, since it reduces the risk of a sharp, leverage-driven flush in either direction.
What It Means Going Forward
With derivatives positioning reset and spot demand holding steady, several trading desks said the market looks better positioned to sustain a move once a clear catalyst arrives, whether that comes from macro data, regulatory developments, or renewed ETF inflows.
